Design and Technology provides children with opportunities to design, plan and develop ideas and make products with specific purposes.

It also encourages children to become creative problem solvers and to be able to work with tools, equipment, materials and components safely. 

Design and Technology is a great context for discovering literacy, maths, science, art and computing, especially for the more kinaesthetic learners. Children are given the opportunity to learn a wide range of new skills and build on the skills learnt in previous years and children celebrate their work by displaying their work in year group areas and classrooms.

Children at Hamsey Green will engage in a variety of inspiring, diligent and practical lessons to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems.  As children progress throughout the school, they will develop their skills and techniques through: food technology, construction, textiles, mechanical structures, and electrical components.  Throughout children’s learning of DT, we aim to develop children’s independence, self-confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement of the products that they have created!
