Reception Class

Well done to Inkpen class who had their health screening tests yesterday.  We were proud to hear that they were able to show off all their phonics knowledge when looking at the letters for their eye test.  The nurses said they were all FABULOUSLY behaved.

British Science Week

This week it’s been all about science.  The week launched with an interactive assembly from Warlingham Secondary school’s science department, learning about acidity and alkaline rainbow colours and predicting when or if balloons will pop!

The Fossil Man visiting was another great day.  So many fossils ranging from huge dinosaur bones to complete skeletons were seen in assembly and year group workshops.  We hope the children liked their kind, donated gift of the sharks teeth!

Our week was rounded off with more experiments from our Science consultant Tom Holloway.  We hope you enjoy the parent workshop after school.

Drone Visit

A drone came to take photos of the children this week to celebrate our Ofsted success.  The drone will be returning shortly to take video footage of our extensive grounds (for the website hopefully).  Watch this space!

Coronavirus Update/Parents Evening

As of writing, we are ensuring all Government advice is followed.  The children have been proactive in hygiene.  Please can we request at Parents Evening, that we observe the ‘no handshake’ recommendations too.

If in the event, schools are requested to close, we will provide on-line learning for the children.  Please ensure you and your child are able to access MyMaths and Edmodo where the work will be posted.  Please see letter sent out today.

Absences and Attendance Reminders

Please can we remind you that any medical, dental or eye appointments should be made, where possible, outside of school times.    Taking your child out of school has an impact on their learning.  If appointments are made during the school day, we do ask for a copy of an appointment card or letter please, to go on to their school file.  If appointments are made regularly during the school day, they may no longer be authorised.

When leaving an absence message, either on the absence line or by email, please can we ask that you include name of your child, year group and the reason for their absence, not just that they are ‘ill’.  Thank you.

We would also like to remind you that taking holiday during the school term, that is not deemed exceptional circumstances, are also not authorised.  Any holiday that exceeds five days, will result in a penalty notice being issued.

Fixed Penalty Notice

Unauthorised absence of five days or more may result in the issue of a penalty notice.  Penalty Notices are issued by the Local Authority and not the school.  The penalty notice is £60, per child, per parent/carer.  Please click here for further information.

School finishes for          Reception at 2:50pm

                                               Years 1&2 at 2:55pm

                                               Years 3-6 at 3:00pm

Please can we remind you that for safeguarding reasons, as always, children will not be able to be picked up early without prior arrangement.  We would be grateful if you could pass this onto anyone who may collect your child/ren.

Families Magazine

Please find the link to your local Families publication below. The publication provides local news and information, health and education advice for families. It is a great recourse for you to find out about local clubs, classes and other family related businesses available in the area. The What’s On section is extremely useful, especially during the holidays!

Infants        -        ‘Pouch’ – a small flexible bag, carried in a pocket or on a belt

Juniors        -        ‘Persevere’ – continuing with something, even though it is difficult

Riddle of the Week for pupils (last answer: a towel)

What invention lets you look right through a wall?
