History
Our teaching History aims to provide children with a knowledge from a variety of historical periods to the current day. Different eras are studied in specific year groups to build a chronology over time, provide learning opportunities that are exciting, engaging and appropriate to the age range, as well as further develop children's understanding of historical contexts. Our aim is that children apply prior learning to new periods. By building on previous learning, children will be able to make connections, and thus enable them to learn more and remember more. Enquiry questions such as, 'What was life like for an Anglo-Saxon?' allow our children to ask questions, investigate, and discover by using a range of evidence.
Through our History lessons, children are taught to weigh up evidence and use a variety of sources of information to help them understand why and how events happened in the past. Children to develop a sense of curiosity about life in historical time periods and then use this to understand aspects of life today.
Historical learning is also enhanced through trips, workshops and visitors.
