School Meals

Lunchtime is in safe hands with Twelve15.

Twelve15 is part of Surrey County Council, and has been providing school meals for over 70 years.  It feeds thousands of school children daily and is Hamsey Green Primary School's caterer.

About school meals at Hamsey Green

Hamsey Green is equipped with its own kitchen, staffed by a cook and kitchen assistants for the provision of daily midday meals.

Pupils’ wellbeing is at the heart of Twelve15’s recipes.  Every weekday it focusses on providing fresh, healthy, and nutritionally balanced lunches that adhere to Government Food Standards.

80% of meals are cooked from scratch, using locally sourced produce whenever possible.

It is our aim that children who have school lunch try to eat a little of everything.  This encourages children to be more adventurous in their eating habits.  If there are specific dietary requirements such as religious reasons or medical reasons, such as fish allergies, being gluten/dairy free, or why a child should not eat certain foods, parents are asked to update their child's record on Arbor and request a Special Diet Request Form from the office to complete and return to us.  This information is also shared with the caterer.

There is also provision for children to eat a packed lunch.  Parents are asked to bear in mind that whatever is in a packed lunch box should be eaten at lunchtime.  We cannot accept responsibility for food lost from containers or breakages.  Children may bring a drink in; but water is provided for all children in the dining hall.  Parents providing packed lunches are asked to remember that we are a ‘healthy school’ and that children’s packed lunches should conform to healthy eating guidelines which are available upon request.  Sweets are not permitted.  We are also a nut-free school.

There is a three-week menu cycle, offering three daily hot meal options (or two daily hot meal options), including a vegetarian choice. This way, our children can have the option of choices for their lunches.

Menus can be viewed on the Twelve15 website.

Meal Choices

These are sent out weekly to all families.  Children can choose to have a school dinner for a day if they want to at any point.

Meals are booked in advance via Arbor. Meals can be selected individually or block booked and must be booked by 9am on the day of the meal.  Please ensure there is money in the account to cover the cost of the meal.  The money will be deducted from the account AFTER the meal has been taken.

Children in KS1 (Reception, Years 1 and Year 2) are entitled to universal free school meals under the Government scheme, so there will be no charge made on your account for meals ordered.  However, you will still need to log into your Arbor account and choose the meals from the menu offered.

Children in KS2 (Years 3-6) will need to pay for their meals, unless you are entitled to Pupil Premium.  If you think you are entitled to Pupil Premium, please contact the school office on Office@HamseyTLT.co.uk or 01883 622000.

Payment for Meals

How much does a school meal cost and what’s included?

There has long been a positive association between learning outcomes and nutrition.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for a free meal through the Universal Infants Free School Meal Scheme, regardless of household income (a saving of over £480).  This entitles your child to a balanced main course, dessert and fresh bread daily.

If your child is in Year 3 or above, the cost per meal is £2.80 from September 2024.

Your child may be entitled to a Free School Meal. Please speak in confidence to a member of the School Office.

Payment for meals should be made online on your Arbor account and must be paid BY 9am on the day.  Any meals paid for but not eaten because of absence or illness will be credited automatically.

Free School Meals/Pupil Premium

If you think your child may be eligible for free school meals, please contact the School Office for an application form or follow the link below - the details of the eligibility criteria are on the form.  The information provided in the form will be used by Strictly Education 4S, Surrey County Council's agent, to check eligibility for free school meals.  All applications are treated confidentially.

Parents are strongly encouraged to apply for free school meals even if their child receives a government-funded meal in KS1 or they prefer their child to have a packed lunch, as this attracts valuable additional Pupil Premium funding for the school, which will also be used to give extra support to their child.

For further information on how the school uses Pupil Premium funding, visit the 'Parents' section of the website.

Packed Lunch and Lunchbox Guidelines

Children may bring a packed lunch to school.  We encourage healthy eating.  Please refer to our lunchbox guidelines for the types of food you should provide for your child.

Break time Snacks

Sweets, chocolates, crisps etc. are not permitted in school.  Pupils up to the end of Year 2 benefit from the Government's ‘Fruit in School’ scheme, which provides a piece of fruit for every child on a daily basis.  Older children are encouraged to bring fruit or a healthy snack, such as a cereal bar, to eat at break time.  All children have access to water in school and in the playground.  Children are also encouraged to bring a bottle of water to school.

Milk

All children under the age of five are provided with a free carton of milk every day.  This service is provided by a company called Cool Milk Ltd.  Milk for children above the age of 5 can also be ordered but charges apply.

For more information, see our Milk section.
